10 Tips for a Shining Hamilton by Hammer Street Clean

Starting Wednesday, Hammer Street Clean will be sharing our best tips for keeping Hamilton clean and full of pride. We’ll be posting every other day, so you’ll have plenty of time to catch each tip, share your own, and see the impact in action.

Each post will focus on a practical cleanup strategy, local resources, or community projects we’ve learned about along the way. Sometimes you’ll see before-and-after photos or quick wins from Barton Village, up the Mountain, or elsewhere in the city—and sometimes it’s just a simple idea to spark change right on your block. Not every tip will have a story or photo, but every step moves us closer to a cleaner, prouder Hamilton.

We want to hear from you!

Hammer Street Clean recognizes that Hamilton are located on the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Mississaugas peoples.
The history of this land is shaped by agreements like the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, created to foster sharing and stewardship of the Great Lakes region among Indigenous nations. Hamilton’s roots also connect to the Between the Lakes Purchase of 1792, a treaty involving the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the British Crown.
Today, Hamilton is home to Indigenous peoples from many nations. We honour their enduring contributions and commit to caring for this land together as neighbours and community members.
